About the Blog

I profess to be one of those who, by profiting, write, and by writing profit. - Augustine

This blog is an attempt to bring to light some of the profit I have from reading, reflecting about things that range from the inane to the significant. My views do not necessarily reflect that of my local church, my organization, or even my friends. So if you see something not worth your while, you can blame me for that.

I am an evangelical/Bible Christian. I have come to know and believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, the Savior of sinners who repent of their sins, and consequently, the Lord of their lives. This does not mean that He is a new Lord, for He is the actual existing Lord of the universe. The Christian has come to finally acknowledge that life is not about himself, but to glorify God and to enjoy Him (now and) forever. While a detailed discussion of that will provide a considerable amount of time, this presentation will more than suffice at the moment.

Why "Alive + Awake"? I believe that one is only and truly alive when the Life has given him life. This life is comes by grace; it is given to an undeserving creature. The creature is but a receiver, and a happy one at that. He would find true happiness, contrasted with the trifles he used to partake of before. And this new life manifests through faith in Jesus, the Life-Giver. This Life-Giver also commands that His people, to be awake, for they do not know when He will return. Their awakened state is marked by an inward sanctifying work by His Spirit and their outward perseverance to obey His commands through godly character and good works. The Life invigorates every facet of their existence, leaving nothing that now belongs to its rightful Lord. I do not mean to preach, but I cannot help it in trying to explain where I come from.

I am a librarian by profession, but currently serving as part of a nonprofit organization called Compassion International. My work allows me to talk to people all around the Philippines and affords me a good look at the Philippine evangelical landscape. Feel free to comment and suggest, especially if it's about books or food or theology or anything under the sun. It is my hope that my articles, while not great works of prose, would have some benefit to you, dear reader.
